The young Lady Husky squad played a close game for the first half, but Avery slowly pulled away to open the year with a 34-20 victory.

“The girls played hard, only down 15-12 at the half, but the first four times we had the ball in the second half, we turned it over and just had a hard time putting the ball in the basket,” said Ashe Head Coach Mark Hudler.

Courtney Sawyer led the Lady Huskies with six points. Amber Miller and Alayne Spencer both scored four points. Gianna Federico had three points, Brooke Price added two and Grace Miller hit one free throw.

Ashe will travel to Hibriten on Tuesday before competing in the Miller Insurance/Dr. Pepper JV Invitational Tournament, Nov. 29-30.

“We are a very young team and will get better as the year goes on,” added Coach Hudler.

The JV tournament this year features Ashe, West Wilkes, Watauga and Avery.
