Pioneers overpower rival Huskies

Friday marked the first of two meetings between Ashe County and Watauga. The Pioneers shot 55-percent from the field and 47-percent from the three-point line to blowout the Huskies, 72-43.


Cam Baker led all players with 20 points on 8-10 shooting. The senior added seven rebounds, three steals and two assists.


Utah Jones added 12 points, Matt Lambert had 10, Trevor Eggers scored nine, Aaron Dobbins added five and Michael Ebaugh scored five.


For Ashe, Devan Sheets was the top scorer with 11 points on 4-10 shooting. Cullen Ashley had eight points and seven rebounds. Connor Bowers and Bradley Lucas each scored six points. Alex Spencer chipped in five, Evan Owen had three, Gavin Woodie scored two and Maison McNeill added two.


Ashe fell to 0-5 overall while Watauga improved to 4-0.


The Huskies will travel to Elkin on Tuesday before returning home for a rematch with the Pioneers on Friday.
