Ashe grapplers take down East Wilkes

The Huskies scored a much-needed conference victory at home against East Wilkes last week, 45-27.
Ashe surrendered forfeit losses in the 160 and 170-pound divisions to Colby Cooper and Spencer Douglas to start the match.
After that, Ashe reeled off seven straight wins to take command.
In the 182-pound division, Joshua Hamilton pinned Eli Billings at the 2:52 mark of the match, and then teammate Shawn Baker pinned Jesse Laws at 2:50 in the 195-pound division.
Trajan Wellington scored a forfeit win at 220-pounds and Mitchell Brown pinned Joseph Shumate just before the horn in the first period of the 285-pound match.
The match continued with the 106-pound class where Ashe’s Caleb Cooper won by forfeit. In the 113-pound class, Jacob Weaver held on for a 6-4 win over Josh Parker to get the sixth Ashe win of the night.
Bodi Miller kept the streak going by pinning Matthew Philley in 52 seconds to win the 120-pound match.
East Wilkes got back in the win column when Ryan Lentz beat Andrew Tedder by a 9-2 decision at 126 pounds.
Ashe’s final win came by forfeit in the 132-pound class with Brady Buchanan getting the victory.
Cardinal wrestler Derrick Woodie pinned T.J. Saunders at 1:54 in the 145-pound class and Brandon Stamper earned a forfeit win in the 152-pound division to wrap up the match.
Ashe is scheduled to travel to Wilkes Central this Friday.
