Aaron Scott, a senior on the Appalachian State University wrestling team, placed second last weekend at the Appalachian Open in Boone.

The former Husky entered the tournament on a six-match losing skid that included a pair of losses at the Keystone Classic in Philadelphia, Pa., and three losses at the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn.

The 157-pounder started the tournament with a 5-4 win over Benjamin Hefner from the University of North Georgia.

In the next round, Scott beat UNC-Pembroke’s Chad Hoff by a 12-3 major decision.

In the quarterfinal matchup, Scott once again got a decision victory, this one over conference foe Nicholas Kiter from The Citadel.

Scott faced off against Duke’s Connor Bass in the semifinal round, and edged him out by a 3-2 decision, setting up a championship match against T.J. Miller of the University of Virginia.

The UVA foe struck quickly and got an early takedown. Scott was never able to recover and lost a 7-1 decision to Miller.

Scott is currently 8-8 this season and holds a career record of 18-38.

The Mountaineers have four regular season conference matchups remaining, as well as the Southern Conference Tournament.

App State travels to Chattanooga on Feb. 2, then closes out the regular season with three straight home matches. VMI comes to town on Feb. 7, Davidson is in Boone on Feb. 16 and Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville is the final match on Feb. 23.

The SoCon Tourney will be on March 8 on the campus of Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C.
