The junior varsity basketball teams split with Elkin on Thursday evening. The boys team came away with a win while the girls team suffered a hard-fought loss.


Ashe 63, Elkin 37


Freshman CoCo Clay scored 18 points and fellow freshman James Bittle had 10 to give Ashe its 17th win of the season.


Tristen Jones scored eight points, Colin Ellis had seven points, Stanton Moore scored six, Judd Price had five and Malachi Poe added five points. Kris Lonidier hit one shot and a free throw for his three points and Dante Shuler hit a free throw in the second quarter for his lone point.


The Huskies (17-3 overall, 11-0 conference) have a chance to win 20 games and finish out a perfect Mountain Valley Conference season this week. After facing Starmount on Monday, Ashe travels to Wilkes Central on Tuesday and returns home to face West Wilkes in the final game of the year on Thursday.


Elkin 37, Ashe 32


Alayne Spencer led all scorers with 15 points, but the Lady Huskies could not overcome a slow first-half start and dropped this contest to the Lady Elks.


Amber Miller scored seven points, Brooke Price had four, Gianna Federico added four points, Grace Miller hit a free throw and Amanda Gambill added a free throw.
