Miracle Walters and Makayla Dimmette scored 26 of the team's 49 points to capture the season sweep over the Ashe County Lady Huskies.

“I was very disappointed in the way we started the game. Elkin's defensive pressure was really tough and aggressive and we did not handle it very well,” said Ashe Head Coach Laura Foster. “We were down early and played catch-up all night.”

Dimmette scored eight of her 12 points in the first half to give the Lady Elks a 26-13 lead at the half.

The second half belonged to Walters. She scored 10 of her 14 in the fourth quarter to help Elkin hold off the Lady Huskies, 49-37.

Ashe's Tyler Eller had her highest scoring game of the season with 10 points to lead the way. The junior hit three of her four three-point attempts and added a free throw.

Morgan Hudler scored eight points and had four steals. Abby Lopp added five points and a team-high eight rebounds. Sydney Kate Grubb chipped in five points, Paige Spell had four points and five rebounds and Hallie Brown scored two points, grabbed three boards and dished out two assists.

Ashe struggled from the floor and hit only 27-percent of its shots and only 4-of-17 from behind the three-point arc.

The Lady Huskies fell to 10-11 overall and 5-6 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.

Elkin is 11-11 overall and 7-5 in the MVAC.

Ashe wraps up the regular season with Starmount at home (Monday), Wilkes Central on the road (Tuesday) and West Wilkes at home on Thursday.

“We certainly hope to play better next week as we finish up the regular season schedule,” added Foster.

Elkin ends the season with a pair of home games against East Wilkes on Tuesday and Wilkes Central on Friday.

This game was the annual “Hoops 4 Hope” battle at ACHS where players, fans and coaches wore pink and helped raise funds for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. According to Coach Foster, the Lady Huskies raised over $400.

The Lady Huskies also wanted to thank everyone for coming out to support the cause and a special thanks to Wayne Bare who won the “50-50” drawing and chose to donate his proceeds of the winnings to the cancer fund.
