Former Husky standout Tommy Spagnolo recorded his second straight monster performance, but this time it wasn’t enough for the Mountaineers on the road at Western Carolina.

Against The Citadel on Thursday, Spagnolo scored 12 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, dished out three assists, blocked two shots and added a steal in 33 minutes on the court. App State held on to win that contest, 54-45

On Saturday, Spagnolo was on top of his game and put up another tremendous stat line. He played more minutes than any other player (42) and led the Mountaineers with 23 points and 12 rebounds. WCU went on to beat ASU in overtime, 84-75

This was Spagnolo’s fourth double-double in the last six games.

Ty Toney scored a career-best 14 points and Tab Hamilton added 13 in the Mountaineer loss.

The Catamounts got 25 big points from Trey Sumler, including 13-of-18 from the charity stripe.

Both teams got to parade to the free throw line all afternoon. Western Carolina hit 31-of-42 as a team while App State hit 27-of-39 attempts.

The Mountaineers fell to 7-16 overall and 3-7 in the Southern Conference while WCU moved to 13-11 and 5-3 in the SoCon.

Spagnolo will hope to keep his string of great games going this Thursday in Boone when Samford comes to town with tip-off at 7 p.m.

Two days later, ASU hosts Wofford in a Saturday matinee at 4:30 p.m.
