The Lady Huskies kept its dominant conference performances going last Thursday with a 6-1 victory over Starmount.

Bekah Bowers had a tremendous first half, scoring both of the team’s goals in the opening 40 minutes. Her first strike came in the seventh minute and she quickly followed that up with another tally in the 12th minute.

After the halftime stoppage, the Ashe offense really came to life early. Senior striker Candi Sanchez scored in the 49th minute and Bowers netted her hat trick in the 50th minute to put Ashe in front, 4-0.

The Lady Huskies took a 5-0 lead on Taylor May’s lone goal of the evening in the 66th minute.

Starmount avoided the shutout when Amber Hurst lobbed a shot that fell right between the crossbar and the outstretched hands of Ashe’s goalie Chrissy Simmons.

The sixth and final goal came from Mac Church in the 75th minute.

Ashe is now 8-6-1 overall and 7-1 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.

The first half of the MVAC schedule is completed and the Lady Huskies are currently in a tie atop the standings with Elkin. The Lady Elks beat Ashe earlier in the season, 1-0.
