The Ashe Aces, a group of travel baseball teams from the county, are still hard at work this summer and traveling to numerous tournaments across the state.

The 7U Aces have played well against older and bigger competition as they have also played in several 8U tournaments. They finished third overall in the Will Dicus Memorial Tournament in Boone. Players on the team are Drew Cheek, Bryce Peters, Eli Gilley, Tucker Roten, Dylan Black, Kye Pennington, Brent Mash, Ben Joyce, Ryder Phipps, Kayden Medley, Caleb Williams, Brodie Burgess and Jordan Tibbs.

The 8U Aces finished second in the Dynasty Baseball Memorial Invitational in Kernersville as well as a runner-up finish in the Will Dicus Memorial Tournament.

Most recently, the 8U team finished third in the District Tournament held Friday in Wilkesboro. The Aces will be in the Tarheel League State Tournament coming up in Smithfield, North Carolina on July 24.

Coming up this week, the Aces will be holding a barbecue fundraiser on July 18 at Fletcher Memorial Baptist Church. Plates will be $8 and can be picked up at 11 a.m. and will be served until they are out of food.

On Saturday and Sunday, the team will be a part of the first tournament to be held in the county at Family Central.

There will also be a silent auction to help cover the cost for the traveling teams.

The Aces wanted to extend a special thank you to the Ashe County Youth Baseball League and Ashe County Parks and Recreation, as well as the coaches and parents that have played such a huge part in making this inaugural Tarheel League season a success.

Ashe Aces sponsors this year are Baker Grading and Excavation, 221 Grocery, Steve Johnson Auto World, Tri-County Monument Company and Kim Arnett Enc., LLC.

Numerous individuals and companies have donated items for the silent auction. The Aces would like to thank everyone for the donations including: Ashe Custom Framing, Tiffany Grubb, Skyline, Century 21, Tamales, McFarland Publishing, Ashe County Ford, Happy Tails, Eclectic Pantry, Mountain Outfitters, Smoky Mountain BBQ, Sophia Grace, Pam’s Unique Boutique, Ashe County Cheese, The Rock, Creative Hairstyles, Cheek Brothers Tree Farm, Little Cheeks, Michelle Goodman, Amy Dollar, Brooke Green Tree Farm, Melinda Poe, Day’s Body Shop, Dr. Rector, Bantum Chef, Corner Market, Appalachian State University, ASU Baseball, Becky’s, Olivia Jenkins & Amanda Estes, 221 Grocery, Heather and Joey Burgess, McDonald’s, Hardee’s, Jason Joyce, Sara Lambert, Carolina Country Wines, Tom Koevec, and Brian and Toby Houck.
