The 2014 Todd Community Preservation Organization (TCPO) Summer Music Series continues this Saturday, Aug. 16 at Cook Memorial Park in Todd, when The Tillers take to the stage at 6 p.m.

Admission is free of charge. There will be food off the grill, snacks and beverages for sale and all proceeds earned will go towards the TCPO. Concert attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket.

The Tillers got their start in August 2007 when they started thumping around with some banjos and guitars and a big wooden bass. Their earliest gigs were for coins and burritos along Cincinnati’s famous Ludlow Street in the district of Clifton. The songs they picked were mostly older than their grandparents. Some came from Woody Guthrie, some were southern blues laments, and many were anonymous relics of Appalachian woods, churches, riverboats, railroads, prairies and coal mines.

The band is a mainstay in Cincinnati’s bar and festival scene, also launching tours with tireless momentum. They were awarded CityBeat Magazine’s Cincinnati Entertainment Award for best Folk and Americana act in 2009, 2010, 2013 and 2014. Their relentless gigging has taken them throughout the East coast, Midwest and West, the Appalachian South and to the United Kingdom and Ireland, opening for the St. Louis crooner, Pokey LaFarge.

The Todd Summer Music Series will conclude Saturday, Sept. 6, when Melissa Reaves comes to town.

The TCPO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed in 1999. Its mission is to create a sustainable community while preserving Todd’s history, cultural heritage and natural beauty.
