Junior offensive lineman Josh Wineberg will begin his junior season of football at Western Carolina on Sept. 6 at the University of South Florida.

The game will be aired live on ESPN 3 at 7 p.m. ESPN 3 is the online platform that ESPN uses to show a host of games that they simply do not have room to air on their major television networks.

Wineberg started 10 games for the Catamounts during his freshman season in 2012. The former Husky started seven games at right tackle and three games at left tackle. He missed the Furman game that season with a shoulder injury.

In 2013, Wineberg started all 12 Catamount contests. During his sophomore year, each start came at right tackle.

Last year was a bit of a struggle for WCU. They went just 2-10 overall and 1-7 in the Southern Conference. The team’s wins were against non-conference foe Mars Hill and an overtime win over Elon on Homecoming.

After traveling to USF in week one, Western Carolina will return home for a pair of non-conference games against Brevard on Sept. 6 and Catawba on Sept. 13.

Following the team’s only off week of the year, the Catamounts open SoCon play at Furman on Sept. 27. That game will be televised live on the American Sports Network.

October opens with a non-conference tilt at Presbyterian on Oct. 4.

The Catamounts return home for the first SoCon home matchup against Wofford on Oct. 11. That game will air live on ESPN 3.

The next month of action will feature a steady diet of conference games. Western travels to new SoCon member Mercer on Oct. 18, host the Citadel for Homecoming on Oct. 25 and play host to Chattanooga on Nov. 1.

Saturday, Nov. 8 will be another televised game. WCU hits the road to Birmingham, Alabama to face Sanford.

Senior Day festivities will take place on Nov. 15 with another new member of the SoCon. VMI makes the trip to Cullowhee.

Western ends the regular season with a brutal non-conference matchup at the University of Alabama on Nov. 22

Should the Catamounts qualify for playoff action, the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs start on Saturday, Nov. 29.
