This note is being written in response to the letter from Andy Guion printed recently in your paper about the Christmas in July Festival. The Festival is a 501-C-3 organization with its own board of directors. I am happily a member of that group, and the Ashe County Arts Council is active in the planning and implementation of Christmas in July. But so are a lot of other volunteers! The Festival does not have any paid staff, it functions solely on a volunteer basis. Representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, the Town of West Jefferson, Cooperative Extension, the Farmers Market, the County’s Volunteer Initiative, the Arts Council, along with many individuals comprise the group that works all year long to make Christmas in July a success.
Mr. Guion’s comments were very much appreciated! The positive impact of Christmas in July is felt by many businesses. We are pleased that the Festival is a success and well received by the community.
We sincerely invite others to get involved. The Board meets at 3:30 p.m. every third Tuesday of the month at the Ashe Arts Center. See how it all happens, get involved, and we’ll continue working together to give back to the our community.
