West Jefferson Chevrolet plans to give back to the community once again with its second annual “Coats 4 Kids” project.

“We did this last year before I took over, and it was such a good event we decided to do it again,” said Brian Minton, West Jefferson Chevrolet’s general manager.

“After the success of last years event, all three elementary schools in Ashe County will participate in the project again,” said Minton.

West Jefferson Chevrolet will give the school that collects enough coats, based on percentage of students, a $500 donation.

Minton said deciding a winner based on percentage of students will make it possible for smaller schools to win, which “levels the playing field and keeps everyone interested.”

The project began on Nov. 5 and will continue until Jan. 2. According to Minton, West Jefferson Chevrolet has “already collected several coats” as of Wednesday.

A collection site has been established in West Jefferson Chevrolet’s show room, where the bed of a truck has been transformed into a makeshift drop-off area.

Minton said the project is “a great chance for the community to help their favorite school while donating to a good cause.”
