Ashe County picked up a 42-33 win over Mitchell in the 2012 season opener at ACHS.

The match began with the 195-pound weight class where Ashe’s William Miller pinned Tanner Buchanan at the 1:37 mark of the match. The Huskies followed that up with a 10-8 sudden victory win for Mitchell Brown in the 220-pound division over Dillon Ledford and another pinfall victory, this one coming from Jake Woods in the 285-pound division. Woods pinned Thomas Parker in 1:06.

Mitchell got right back into the match by winning four of the next five contests. In the 106-pound division, Peyton Greene pinned Andrew Tedder in 1:10. Kyler Hoilman picked up an 11-6 decision win over Jacob Weaver in the 113-pound division. Levi Richardson made quick work of Wiley Dillard at 126, pinning the Ashe grappler in 20 seconds. Cy Thomas pinned Bodi Miller in the battle of 132-pounders, ending the match at the 3:02 mark.

Ashe’s Carter Calhoun pinned Zach Miller in the 120-pound division, beating his opponent in 52 seconds.

Matthew Hamilton scored a key win for Ashe in the 138-pound class. The junior picked up a 9-2 decision win over Solomon Duncan.

Mitchell took a brief lead in the overall match when Dalton Beaver pinned Chase Conner in 31 seconds in the matchup of 145-pounders.

Ashe quickly moved back in front when Michael Elliott, who moved up to 152 this season, made it look easy against Davis McKinney, pinning him in 1:10.

The Huskies finished strong, winning two of the final three matches to secure the team victory. Mitchell got a pinfall win from Daniel Bomar as he pinned Logan Chittick, but Lucas Miller and Justin Scarborough finished the match on a high note. Miller pinned Will Atkins at 3:06 in the 170-pound division and Scarborough pinned Gage Daniels at 3:25 in the 182-pound class.

The grapplers will be back in action on Wednesday with a tri-match at St. Stephens, beginning at 5 p.m.
