Mrs. Opal Blackburn Pruitt

Mrs. Opal Blackburn Pruitt of Lansing died on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Ashe Memorial Hospital. She was 82.

Mrs. Pruitt was born on Sept. 28, 1930, in Ashe County to Harrison Andrew and Katy Welch Blackburn.

Mrs. Pruitt was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glemus “Tony” Pruitt; son, James Edward Barker; and brother, Earl Blackburn.

Mrs. Pruitt is survived by one daughter, Barbara Ann Stuart and husband Tom of Lansing; four sons, Robert Lee Barker and wife Nancy of Lansing, Ronnie Earl Barker and wife Mary of West Jefferson, Jackson Gwyn Barker and wife Ina of Warrensville and Willard Dean Barker and wife Dot of Granite Falls; two sisters: Ardna Gambill of Lansing and Edna Clark of Lenoir; 10 grandchildren, Janet Hamm, Betty Miller, Karen Barker, Debra Walters, Zachery Stuart, Vicky Price, Kenneth Barker, Amy Presley, Ricky Barker, Gerald Barker; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jim Greer, Rev. Dennis Poe and Rev. Tom Stuart. Burial followed in Barker Eller McNeill Cemetery. The family received friends on Saturday at Badger Funeral Home.
