Randell Lee ‘Cotton’ Phillips, of Dogwood Circle, Jefferson, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at his home. He was 67.

Born Nov. 4, 1945, in Ashe County, he was a son of Grady Randall and Mary Lee Church Phillips.

Mr. Phillips was a member of Gap Creek Baptist Church. Before returning to Ashe County, he and his wife owned and operated Family Care Homes in Asheville.

‘Cotton’ enjoyed his outdoors activities and was especially fond of assembling model cars with his daughter.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Gamble Phillips; daughter, Jackie Farrington and husband, Craig, of Fleetwood; three grandchildren, Boyd Greene of Fleetwood, Danielle Carlton of Deep Gap, and Ashley Greene of Glendale Springs; and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady Randall and Mary Lee Church Phillips.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2012, at the Gap Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Fleetwood with Mr. Alton Phillips.

The family will receive friends from 5-6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Austin & Barnes.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Gap Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, in care of Billy Moretz, P.O. Box 575, Deep Gap, NC 28618.
