A Todd woman was transported by ambulance to Ashe Memorial Hospital Friday afternoon following a wreck at the intersection of 221 and 163 in West Jefferson.

Randy Main of Todd said that his wife received minor injuries when their car collided with a vehicle southbound on 163.

i like that you say its all accusations. considering the mains didn't receive any tickets and the boy was ticketed for running a red light, failure to reduce speed to avoid causing an accident. and insurance problems. i think you may need more people / crew to get more "valid data"

Thank you for changing Mr. Main's name from Robert to his correct name of Randy. It still sounds in your article, in my opinion, as though it was both driver's faults or the fault of the intersection.

To refer to it as a collision and then the headlines "MALFUNCTION JUNCTION". Most junctions WILL malfunction when someone runs a red light (someone who's insurance has reportedly lapsed at that). I have ask a number of people if I was just being overly sensitive to the use of the word collision and without exception they have all agreed with me that that term "collision" in their mind's was one they would have been one they would have used to describe two vehicles running together not just one being broadsided by another running a red light (as indicated, I understand, by the tickets the young man in the red car received).

Please. justice for the victims. They were in no way at fault.

I am an avid supporter of young people and usually the first to defend them. Most of us have made some very poor choices when we were young but the reality is that the results were that we learned valuable though rough lessons from them. Let's at least hold this young man accountable so that hopefully he learns something from this incident. This time no lives were lost. The next time may not be so fortunate if we continue to give the image that it was the victim's or the "junction's" fault.

Reality check, please. Thanks.

From the editor:

Here's a reality check to consider.

I don't think either one of us knows legally who is at fault in the incident. We only know accusations. Those would be for a court to decide. We're simply saying two cars collided, which they evidently did.

I was concerned when I read your coverage of the acc cident involving Mr. & Mrs. Main.It seems to me the term "collided seems like an injustice to the Mains.

According to Wikipedia the term collision is defined as "A collision is an isolated event in which two or more bodies (colliding bodies) exert relatively strong forces on each other for a relatively short time."

From what I understand the Main's were broadsided. I am sure my prospective on this is a bit biased in that I know the Mains and they are cherished friends and anything that even hints at blemishing their image is distasteful to me. They are one of the kindest couples I know. Since my husband's death they have been such a great support to me.

The very evening this happened Mrs. Main had called me to tell me they were coming to get me to take me to dinner (which they often do) and the only reason I declined was that I had already eaten with another friend.

I know this may sound petty on my part but they are such precious people that I feel very protective of them too.

Incidently, Mr. Main's name is Randy not Robert as you have him listed.
