Robert Turner, 74 years old from Trinity N.C., killed a black bear yesterday near Little Piney while visiting his family in Ashe County.
Turner said he saw the bear while sitting in his tree stand, deer hunting, and shot it with a 50 caliber muzzleloader.
Turner estimated the bear weighed 300-325 pounds, but said “it felt like it weighed 1,000 pounds by the time we loaded it onto the truck.”
