A field of 24 teams took to the greens at beautiful Jefferson Landing Golf Club on July 18 for the 11th Annual Ashe County Board of Education Endowment Fund Golf Tournament.
Teams participated in a captain’s choice round of golf and winners include:
1st Place Gross Scoring – AEV (American Emergency Vehicles) - Team members: Anthony Hamilton, Mikael Blevins, Nathan Brown, Josh Thompson
2nd Place Gross – Pearson Digital – Team members: William Crespo, Travis Reeves, Erik Naglee, Chad Scott
3rd Place Gross – BREMCO – Team members: Bryan Wagoner, Hal Wooten, Travis Long, Russell Sheets
1st Place Net Scoring – Maness Tire – Team members: George Long, Dustin Absher, Ryan Absher, Jimmy Black
2nd Place Net – Ashe County High School – Team members: Jason Krider, Marc Payne, Andy Puhl, Brian Hampton
3rd Place Net – SkyLine – Team members: Robbie Ramer, Kenny Church, Eric Holt, Phillip May
Russell sheets won the longest drive competition, and Wrenn Johnson, Andy Puhl, Kevin Kurtz, and Mike Johnson brought home Closest to the Pin awards.
The annual golf tournament is designed to bolster the Ashe County Board of Education Endowment Fund, a non-profit organization created in June 2000. The Ashe County Board of Education partnered with the North Carolina Community Foundation to create a designated endowment to support educational endeavors beyond those funded by tax dollars.
The Education Endowment Fund provides grants that enrich learning and educational opportunities over and above the resources provided by local, state and federal funding. Contributions make a direct impact by providing financial support for Ashe County students, according to the Ashe County Board of Education.
Since 2002, nearly $42,000 has been awarded to local teachers in the form of grants. This year alone, nine Ashe County teachers were awarded $6,660, out of 33 applications.
The Ashe County Schools Endowment Board and the Ashe County Board of Education extend a sincere “thank you” to all participants and sponsors.
