Tucker Goodman and Zach Lawrence competed in the 2A Midwest Regional golf tournament at Sapona Ridge Country Club in Lexington last Thursday.
Each golfer in the tourney played 18 holes, and the top three teams and top three individuals not on one of those three teams qualified for the state tournament.
Goodman and Lawrence both just missed the cut to make the state championship match. Goodman finished with a score of 87, four shots back of the final qualifier. Lawrence shot an 89, just six shots behind.
“Tucker and Zach played really well, considering this was their first experience at regional play,” said head coach Laura Foster. “They represented our school and our community extremely well. I am really proud of both of them. They are very good golfers but even better young men.”
Salisbury had the top team score with 315. West Davidson was second, shooting a team total of 325 and Cuthbertson was third with a score of 329.
Individually, Jesse Robertson of West Stokes finished with a 74 to take the first qualifying spot. Starmount’s Nick Gunnell finished with an 81 and T.J. Ramey of North Surry shot an 83.
