The Jefferson Post is pleased to announce that Dylan Lightfoot has been named its newest staff writer.
“Dylan is an accomplished writer and has a thorough understanding of the news business. We are fortunate to have found someone who brings not only the skills needed to offer our readers informative and educational news stories, but a commitment to his community. He is a solid addition to our staff,” said Post General Manager/Editor Cliff Clark.
Moving to Lansing last year from Louisville, Ky., Lightfoot quickly demonstrated his desire to make a difference by getting involved in his community.
A metal craftsman by trade, Lightfoot is also a University of Louisville alumnus, and comes to the Post with three years experience as a writer and section editor at his alma mater’s independent student newspaper, The Louisville Cardinal.
“I made Ashe County my adopted home,” Lightfoot said, “because there’s no Starbucks here, and I wanted to stand out in the snow in my pajamas with a splitting maul and not get arrested.”
Lightfoot said he is glad of the opportunity to work in community journalism, where small but relevant issues don’t get eclipsed by national and world news focus.
“A county of 27,000 has to tell its own stories. Nobody else is going to do it. A car accident here affects people more than the latest flare-up in the Middle East,” he said.
