Linemen with Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation responded to outages Monday morning primarily in Watauga and Ashe counties caused by trees on power lines and broken power poles.
Days of heavy rain loosened soil and tree roots, causing large trees outside of the cooperative’s right of ways to fall into power lines. On Monday morning, 487 Watauga County members were without power and 63 Ashe County members were also affected.
Linemen worked throughout the night into early Monday morning to restore scattered outages cross Watauga, Ashe and Caldwell counties, including the largest outage that resulted from a tree on a power line in Watauga County that affected more than 5,000 members from around 7:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday night.
Members were encouraged to report outages by calling the cooperative’s PowerLine at 1-800-448-2383.
Members were also advised to stay far away from downed power lines as they could have still been energized.
