Dominick LeSerra, of West Jefferson, killed a black bear weighing between 500-600 pounds several Saturdays ago on Buck Mountain.
While LeSerra, 20, was in the process of adjusting his deer camera, a large black bear made its way towards him. By the time LeSerra realized it was a bear and not a deer, the bear was within 10 feet of him.
LeSerra dropped the bear in one shot with his muzzleloader.
LeSerra had the bear meat butchered at Gentry’s and it is being prepared at Rex’s Taxidermy as a full-standing mount.
Rex’s Taxidermy confirmed the bear weighed between 500 and 600 pounds.
