Anthony Federico made it a senior night to remember, scoring two goals to help the Huskies win its 18th consecutive game, beating North Surry 6-1.
The Huskies honored 11 seniors at halftime of the game. William Miller, Lucas Miller, Lucas Zeller, Tanner Elliot, Anthony Federico, Austin Bennett, Travis Stanley, Cole Price, Sam Bowers, Lucas Hamm and Braxton Treadway were joined by their parents to celebrate years of hard work on the soccer field.
Federico started the scoring with a goal in the eighth minute of play. The Huskies took at 2-0 lead on a goal from Cesar Ruiz in the 14th minute.
North Surry scored its lone goal of the contest in the 15th minute to cut the deficit in half.
Miguel Ramos quickly got that goal back with a score of his own in the 17th minute to give Ashe a 3-1 advantage.
That score would remain the same until five minutes into the second half when Federico netted his second score of the night.
Fellow senior Zeller added a goal in the 65th minute, then junior Frank Ledezma put the final score up for Ashe with a goal just one minute later.
Braxton Treadway was solid in net, allowing just one goal and stopping several shots that came his way.
Ashe, who moved up to second place in the 2A state poll, now sits at 18-1 overall with this non-conference win. The Huskies are 11-0 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.
Up next, Ashe has its biggest game of the season at home against Forbush on Monday. If Ashe wins, they will clinch the MVAC Championship.
The Huskies will end the regular season next Thursday at East Wilkes.
