More financial momentum for Lansing park expansion

The Town of Lansing has been awarded a $120,000 grant to construct a 3,000-foot greenway along Big Horse Creek, a crucial part of the Creeper Trail Park’s expansion.This comes on the heels of the Town being awarded a provisional grant in the amount of $282,500 from the Clean Water Management Trust Fund to purchase land for the park’s expansion, provided the Town provides matching funds.The Big Horse Creek project was one of 10 grants recently awarded by the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ Water Resources Development Project Grant Program (WRDP). Gov. Pat McCrory made the announcement Wednesday, Oct. 1.

 

Ashe unemployment remained unchanged in August

Ashe County’s unemployment rate held steady at 7.7 percent in August, according to the latest data released by the North Carolina Department of Commerce on Wednesday, Oct. 1.The county’s unemployment rate remained unchanged from July, when the rate was also at 7.7 percent.
