Softball drops two MVAC games

The Lady Husky softball team lost a pair of home games last week, first to West Wilkes and then to Alleghany.West Wilkes 17, Ashe 0Blackhawk ace Courtney Lackey allowed just one hit in four innings and retired nine Ashe batters on strikes to record the win on the mound. Lackey had a good night at the plate as well with three RBI’s and two runs scored.Caitlin Shepherd added two hits, two RBI’s and three runs scored. Lakyn Rutledge had two hits, two RBI’s and scored twice and Madison Huffman scored twice and reached base three times.Ashe got its lone hit on a double from senior Sloan Elliott.

Submitted photo | Jefferson Post - The annual Industrial League hosted by Ashe County Parks and Recreation came to an end two weeks ago with the Mastercraft team winning the championship. Team members were: Kevin Nichols, Jordan Nichols, Matt Nichols, Daniel Waln, Brandon Lucas, Bradley Lucas, Dustin Hamm, John Spagnolo, Tavin Holman, Tatum Lemly and Tucker Clay. All but two of the team members played at Ashe County High School at some point during their basketball careers.

A wreck involving an Ashe County Transport shuttle and late model GMC Yukon occurred just after 11 a.m. Tuesday.The wreck happened at the intersection of Mt. Jefferson Road and Mt. Ashe County traveled to Lenoir for the annual Porter Relays with both the men’s and women’s track teams finishing in fourth place overall out of nine teams.The meet started with field events. Brandon Wingler finished 12th overall in the shot put. Luis Ramos finished 17th and Mitchell Brown was 23rd. Commissioners approve resolution for Todd water study

In a 4-0 vote by the Ashe County Board of Commissioners, a resolution requesting a technical assistance grant for a study for Todd water and waste-water facilities was approved.The technical assistance grant will be used to fund a preliminary engineering report.If approved by the state, the county would receive a $50,000 grant for the study from the N.C.
