CULLOWHEE, N.C. — Western Carolina senior offensive lineman Josh Wineberg was named a preseason All-American selection as College Sports Madness (collegesportsmadness.com) released its NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) three preseason All-America teams.
A staple along WCU’s offensive front, Wineberg has started all 34 games in which he has suited up for the Catamount football team over the past three seasons, missing just one game as a true freshman in 2012.
The former Husky is coming off a season where he was a second team All-Southern Conference selection from the league’s head coaches in 2014. This is Wineberg’s third preseason honor. The senior was picked as a first team All-SoCon member by College Sports Madness and a second team selection from the SoCon head coaches at the conference media day back in late July.
Wineberg was among eight players from the Southern Conference represented on the preseason honorary squads. He was joined by first team selections Gunnar Bromelow, an offensive lineman from Samford; second team honorees in Chattanooga offensive lineman Corey Levin, Furman linebacker Corey Magwood and Mercer punt returner Chandler Curtis; and third team selections in Chattanooga quarterback Jacob Huesman, Wofford offensive lineman Anton Warby, and Dee Virgin, a defensive back from Chattanooga.
The All-America team release by College Sports Madness comes days after the same online publication listed a league-best 16 Catamounts on its preseason All-Southern Conference teams. The group also tabbed WCU fourth in its preseason outlook of the SoCon, and 35th in its preview of the top 44 NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) teams.
