TAYLORSVILLE — Another strong ground game test will await the Huskies this Friday night at Alexander Central High School.
The Cougars (1-2) as a team have already rushed for 1,095 yards in just three games.
Bryson Godfrey, a 6-1, 160-pound sophomore running back, leads Alexander Central with 369 yards on 36 carries with five touchdowns.
Senior Devante Clark, a 5-10, 190-pounder, has 281 yards on 40 carries with two touchdown and senior quarterback Landon Hammer has 261 yards on 47 carries with three scores.
So far through three games, the Cougars have only went to the air 11 times, completing just four of those passes for 58 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Defensively, sophomore defensive back Jacob Parsons has been the leader on defense. He is the leading tackler for Alexander Central with 21 tackles and has two interceptions.
Jacob Watson has 18 tackles, Godfrey has 14 tackles and an interception, Corey Sherrod has 12 tackles, Devon Weiss has 12 tackles and Bradley Anderson has 12 tackles.
Up front, the Cougars have lots of size on the line and will be another big test for Ashe.
Senior Sam Powers (6-3, 250 pounds), senior Dustin Adams (6-0, 280 pounds), junior Tyler Lackey (6-1, 285 pounds), senior Ryan Whitley (6-3, 270 pounds) and junior Mason Smith (6-2, 270 pounds) are all a lot of muscle on the offensive and defensive lines.
The Huskies are coming off of a 34-21 loss to Hibriten last week.
Colin Ellis tossed two touchdowns and ran for another and Judd Price continued his hot play with two more receiving touchdowns.
For Alexander Central, they have faced a tough non-conference season as well, and much like the Huskies, the offense has been there, but the defense has had a hard time getting off the field.
In week one, Watauga beat the Cougars by a 42-20 score and South Caldwell held on for a 40-33 win.
Last week, Alexnder Central beat up on Bandys, rushing for 320 yards and five touchdowns on the way to a 42-20 win.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. from Alexander Central HS.
