Golf team rolls at Cedarbrook CC

ELKIN — For the second conference match in a row, Ashe County golfer Sarah Hardin finished with the best individual score, helping the team capture the top overall score in last Wednesday’s match at Cedarbrook Country Club.

Ashe finished with a team score of 143, 20 strokes ahead of second place East Wilkes. Wilkes Central (168) was third, followed by Alleghany (173), Elkin (175) and North Wilkes (181).

Hardin finished with a score 0f 40, seven shots ahead of teammate Savannah Brooks who finished in second place overall. Elkin’s Palmer Duncan finished in a tie for third with Hunter Tharpe from East Wilkes. Both golfers shot a 49. Wilkes Central teammates Sammi Jo Walker and Jade Duncan shot a 53 and 55 respectively.

Madison Osborne and Katie Orr both finished with a 56 and Alexis Howell shot 58.

On Thursday, the women’s golf team traveled to Blowing Rock Country Club for a non-conference match against Watauga.

The Pioneers beat Ashe by 11 strokes, finishing with a score of 151 to Ashe’s 162.

“This was really good experience for my team against a very good team. Coach (Jamie) Wilson does a great job with her girls,” said Ashe County head coach Laura Foster. “We appreciate the opportunity to play on such a beautiful golf course at Blowing Rock Country Club.”

Watauga’s Mary Seramur held on to win the match with a score of 47, one stroke ahead of Hardin.

Brooks shot 55, Howell shot 59, Orr shot 60 and Osborne shot 62 for Ashe.

Kate Williams had a 50, Heather Ostwalt shot a 54, Morgan Critcher shot a 56 and Victoria Shukis shot a 58 to round out Watauga’s scoring.

The golf team is scheduled to have two matches this week. Ashe travels to Oakwoods Country Club (Monday) and hosts a conference match at Mountain Aire (Wednesday).
