Wineberg makes All-SoCon team

CULLOWHEE, N.C. — Senior Josh Wineberg was one of 16 Western Carolina University football players to be named to the All-Southern Conference team. The list was released on Tuesday.

Wineberg was a second team selection with quarterback Troy Mitchell and defensive back Trey Morgan.

The Ashe County native wrapped up a stellar college football career as a four-year starter for the Catamounts on the offensive line.

Wineberg started 10 games during his freshman season, all 12 games during his sophomore and junior years and 10 games during this past season.

This was the second straight year that Wineberg earned a spot on the All-SoCon team.

Overall, Wineberg started all 44 games he appeared in.

Chattanooga quarterback Jacob Huesman became the first player in SoCon history to be named Offensive Player of the Year three times.

Senior Mitchell Jeter from The Citadel was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Year, Samford wide receiver Kelvin McKnight was named SoCon Freshman of the Year, Chattanooga’s Corey Levin was named the top offensive lineman and Citadel head coach Mike Houston was SoCon Coach of the Year.
