WEST JEFFERSON — The junior varsity girls got their first conference win of the year on Friday night with a 40-37 victory over Wilkes Central.

Earlier in the week, Ashe lost to a strong Avery County team, 45-26.

The JV Lady Huskies are now 4-11 overall and 1-5 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.

For the JV boys, Ashe lost a heartbreaker to Avery County on Wednesday with a buzzer beater from the Vikings.

Alec Roland was Ashe’s high scorer with 17 points. Ethan Cox added 13 and Caleb Harless scored six.

On Friday, Ashe bounced back with a 47-43 victory over Wilkes Central.

Cox was the high scorer in this contest with 14 points. Roland added 12, Jake Richardson scored nine and Luke Hudler added six. Harless scored three, Branson Shepherd added two and Brian Zheng hit a free throw.

The JV Huskies are 12-3 overall and 5-1 in the MVAC.

Both teams will be in action this week at West Wilkes on Tuesday and at Alleghany on Friday.
