HAYS — A cold-shooting second half doomed the Lady Huskies in the team’s upset bid against North Wilkes.

Ashe held an 18-17 halftime lead, but saw the shots stop falling in the third and fourth quarters, falling to the Lady Vikings, 43-22.

North Wilkes jumped ahead early on, taking a 13-6 lead after the first quarter. The Lady Huskies played its best basketball of the game during the second quarter, going on a 12-2 run to close the quarter and take a halftime lead.

This was the second time this year Ashe held a halftime lead at North Wilkes, but much like the previous game, the points became few and far between in the second half against a tough North Wilkes defense.

Ashe’s top scorer was Jayce Miller with six points. Sydney Kate Grubb added five, Samantha Woods scored four and senior Savannah Brooks scored four points in her final game as a Lady Husky. Chloe Sullivan added the final three points in the loss.

North Wilkes forward Allison Livengood was the difference in the game for the Lady Vikings, scoring 20 of the team’s 43 points, including 12 in the second half.

Emily Phillips scored 10 points, Savannah Billings had four, Victoria Young scored four, Sapphire Nichols had three and McKenzie Wood scored two.

The Lady Huskies finished up the 2015-16 season with an overall record of 12-14.

North Wilkes advances to the second round where they will host 12th seeded North Rowan (18-7). The Lady Cavaliers advanced with a 50-48 win over Franklin.
