BOONVILLE — Starmount added four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull away from Ashe County on Tuesday, handing the Lady Huskies a 10-3 defeat.
Sarah Houck had a big game offensively for Ashe with a solo home run and a two-run double. Chloe Sullivan added a hit and scored twice and Jada McClure had a hit as well.
The Lady Huskies opened the season with a walk-off win over Avery County. Emma Treva had three hits including the game-winning hit in the bottom of the ninth to give Ashe an 8-7 victory. Houck blasted out three hits, Hannah Jones had two hits and scored twice and Chloe Sullivan had two hits and scored a run.
One of the biggest hits of the night came from sophomore Lora Jones. Jones smashed a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning that turned a 5-2 deficit into a 6-5 Ashe County lead.
The Lady Huskies are 1-2 overall. The team’s other loss came against Hibriten, a 10-0 defeat in five innings. Lora Jones had Ashe’s lone hit in the contest.
Ashe will be back on the field for two conference games coming up. The team travels to East Wilkes on Tuesday and will host North Wilkes on Thursday.
