WEST JEFFERSON — Ashe County made quick work of Alleghany on Wednesday with a 9-0 mercy rule victory, three minutes into the second half.
The Lady Huskies had 13 shots on goal in the first half, scoring on eight of those.
Alyssa Peterson scored the first two goals of the match in the 12th and 13th minutes. Bekah Bowers added a goal in the 16th minute to put Ashe in front, 3-0.
Peterson netted her third goal of the evening in the 20th minute, the first of five goals in the final 20 minutes of play.
Mahala Land scored on a corner kick in the 22nd minute, Melissa Ramos scored in the 24th minute and Kierra Whitaker scored in the 30th minute.
Ashe’s final first half tally was in the 31st minute with a shot from Caroline Current that put the Lady Huskies ahead by an 8-0 score at the half.
It took just three minutes into the second half for the nine-goal mercy rule to come into effect when Land scored on a free kick after a penalty.
Ashe now sits at 6-4 overall and 4-0 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference. Alleghany is 0-5 and 0-3 in the MVAC.
Next up, the Lady Huskies head to Elkin on Tuesday and to Starmount on Friday.
