WEST JEFFERSON — Ashe County grabbed a pair of wins in the last week of action.
Last Wednesday, the Huskies traveled to Avery County and came away with an 8-1 victory.
On Tuesday, Ashe took on North Wilkes at home and scored a 9-0 win. Andrew Shepherd, Jacob Key, Simon Houck, Dakin Christoferson, Noah Gouge and Devin Rupard all won their singles matches.
“It was a great win for us, I am proud of the way our team played and represented our school,” said Ashe County head coach Larry Dix.
Next up on the schedule, Ashe is scheduled to host Oak Hill Academy in a non-conference match on Monday and host Alleghany on Tuesday.
BOONVILLE — The Huskies traveled to Silo Run Golf Course on Monday to compete in a Mountain Valley Athletic Conference match.
Wilkes Central continues to be the front-runner in the race for the conference title. The Eagles finished with a team score of 151, seven strokes ahead of Alleghany in second place. Elkin took third with a score of 164, Starmount was fourth with a score of 167 and West Wilkes took fifth, finishing with a total of 177. East Wilkes (184) and Ashe (219) rounded out the scoring order.
Starmount’s Chris Fillingame had the best round of the match with a 35.
Ashe was led by senior Kendall Wagner, who finished with a 49. Corey Carter shot 50, Jacob Schell shot a 57, Ben Brooks had a 63 and Kenan Kurtz finished with a 63.
