BOONE — Appalachian State University Director of Athletics Doug Gillin announced on Monday that Brittney Whiteside has been hired as the new associate athletics director.
Whiteside spent the previous year as the director of external engagement for the University of Missouri. During this time, Whiteside coordinated seating at all of Missouri’s athletic facilities and helped work on community outreach programs to increase support for Mizzou as well as listening to fans about what they want to enhance gameday experiences in different sports.
Whiteside also worked under Gillin while he was deputy athletics director at Missouri, so this hire certainly brings some familiarity with it.
“I am ecstatic that Brittney will join our staff,” Gillin said. “I learned during our time together at Missouri that she is a rising star in athletics administration. Her experience in a wide variety of roles within college athletics, including as a student-athlete, will be extremely beneficial to our department, student-athletes, coaches and fans.”
Whiteside graduated from Wright State with a B.S. in psychology in 2007 and returned later to earn a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling in 2012.
During her collegiate life, Whiteside was a four-time Horizon League All-Conference performer and finished her career as the third highest scorer at Wright State.
In her new role at ASU, Whiteside will be the sport administrator for different sports, as well as working behind the scenes on issues such as student-athlete initiatives, women’s sports initiatives, cost of attendance and financial aid issues as well as participating in important fundraising activities.
“I’m excited to become a part of the Appalachian State family,” Whiteside said. “I look forward to joining Doug Gillin and assisting as the Mountaineers continue to achieve great things on and off the fields and courts.”
