Men’s soccer to open season vs. Watauga

WEST JEFFERSON — The varsity soccer team will start the 2016 season with six straight non-conference matches, including the season-opener at home against rival Watauga.

Ashe will host the Pioneers on Aug. 15 and Avery County on Aug. 17 to get the season started.

Next up, the Huskies go on the road for three straight. Ashe heads to Hibriten on Aug. 29, Mitchell County on Sept. 7 and Watauga on Sept. 8

The Huskies will host Mount Airy on Saturday, Sept. 10 before beginning conference play on Monday, Sept. 12 at home against Alleghany.

Ashe’s first road conference match will be at Elkin on Sept. 14. The next day, Ashe returns home to host Surry Central in another tough non-conference match.

September comes to an end with a road match at Starmount (Sept. 19), home matches against Wilkes Central (Sept. 21) and East Wilkes (Sept. 26) and a road match at North Wilkes (Sept. 28).

The final month of the regular season opens with two road matches at West Wilkes (Oct. 3) and Alleghany (Oct. 5).

Ashe has its final non-conference match of the regular season on Oct. 6 against Oak Hill Academy.

Up next, the Huskies host Elkin on Oct. 10 and Starmount on Oct. 12.

The last four regular season matches will be at Wilkes Central (Oct. 17), at East Wilkes (Oct. 19), at home against North Wilkes (Oct. 24) and at home against West Wilkes (Oct. 26).

2A state playoff action will get underway on Nov. 2 with the state championship games being played Nov. 18-19.
