JEFFERSON — The fields at Family Central and Ashe Park will be busy from Thursday through Saturday with three softball state championship tournaments underway.
The coach pitch 7-8-year-old tournament, the machine pitch 8U tournament and the 14U tournament will take place on six different fields.
Ashe County Parks and Recreation will be hosting and organizing the event.
The tournaments will be featuring district champions throughout the entire state competing for three days to crown a state champ in each division.
Thanks to having movable fencing at Ashe Park, the lower field at Family Central that used to be the baseball field will allow for a fourth field to be used at Family Central, according to Ashe County Parks and Recreation Director Scott Turnmyre.
Originally, the high school softball field was going to be used, but according to the most recent tournament bracket, only the four fields at Family Central and the lower field at Ashe Park will be needed for the event.
There are two other state championship softball tournaments going on in the area. The 10U tournament is being played in Boone while the 12U tournament is taking place in Wilkes County.
The tournament action does not stop here however as Ashe County will also host the 10U boys minor league baseball championship next weekend.
Ashe will have one team competing in the machine pitch 8U tournament this week. The team will be coached by head coach Josh Williams and assistant coaches Lindsey Williams, Dustin Farmer and Matt Williams.
The players on the team are Callie Williams, Addison Williams, Isabella Farmer, Addison Dollar, Ava Roten, Ellie Cable, Hadleigh Windish, Eva Gimlin, Emma-Rae Eldreth and Tyler Howell.
Tournament information is available on the new Ashe County Parks and Recreation website at www.asheparks.com .
