‘Ashe Dash’ Event to Benefit Local Top Dog Clinic

JEFFERSON-Ashe County is hosting a 5k and Fun Run to benefit the Top Dog Clinic, a school based health clinic at Ashe Middle School.

The Ashe Dash will be on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., with Fun Run at 8:15 a.m. and 5k at 8:30 a.m.

This event will be fun for families and the community, while all proceeds will benefit the Top Dog Clinic, which provides essential health services to 7th and 8th grade students at Ashe Middle School. We encourage the community to participate and support the Top Dog Clinic, while promoting a healthy a healthy Ashe County. This is a great example of the collaborative community spirit that exists in Ashe County and is an example for others to follow.

The race is being sponsored by Ashe County Schools and AppHealthCare (Appalachian District Health Department). These sponsors share a common goal of wanting to create a community where the healthy choice is the easy choice. Additionally, they are all focused on having healthy citizens which lead to a vibrant economy.

The Ashe Dash is giving us an opportunity to demonstrate our commitment towards achieving a healthier population through community partnerships, said Stephanie Bunch, Community Health Services Director. We know that getting more physical activity is critical to preventing many of the problems that are shortening our lives.

The entire community is encouraged to attend the event. The race will begin at West Jefferson Methodist Church in West Jefferson. Registration for the race can be completed at https://runsignup.com/Race/NC/WestJefferson/AsheDash5k.

In addition to the 5K race, there will be a fun run for all ages beginning at 8:15 am. The fun run course is less than one mile. Registered participants will receive a t-shirt, as supplies last. Awards will be given out following the race!
