Bulldog defense shines at West Wilkes

MILLERS CREEK — Defense and special teams led the way for the Ashe County Bulldogs on Tuesday.

Ashe County had five tackles for loss, one quarterback sack and picked off three passes in the 37-8 victory over West Wilkes.

Austin Poe had an outstanding game on defense and special teams. Poe had a pair of interceptions returned for touchdowns, one he returned for 32 yards and the other for 37 yards. He also added a 42-yard punt return for a touchdown and a 60-yard kickoff return for a TD. Overall, Poe finished with four touchdowns and 171 total return yards on those scores.

Camden Current had five tackles and an interception, Gabe Bare and Ryan Blevins each had four tackles and Jaydon Treadway added a quarterback sack.

While the offense was only on the field for a total of 16 plays, the Bulldogs still found a way to score a pair of touchdowns. Ryan Blevins and Timothy Peterson both added rushing touchdowns in the victory.

The Bulldogs improved to 5-0 on the season.
