DOBSON — The Ashe County cross country team put on another good showing at the River Run Invitational last week at Fisher River Park in Dobson.

The women’s team finished in first place out of seven teams while the men’s team finished as runner-up behind North Stokes.

In the women’s race, Ashe tallied 36 points, good enough for a three-point victory over North Stokes and an 11-point win over East Wilkes.

Freshman Mahaley Cronk grabbed second place in a time of 21:32. Abigail Hemric of North Stokes was the winner of the race in 20:57.

Sophomore Madison Warner took seventh for the Lady Huskies, crossing the finish line in 23:03.

On the men’s side, North Stokes scored 34 points to win the meet. Ashe finished with 42 points and East Wilkes had 44 points.

The Huskies had four runners in the top 11 spots. Tafton Baker finished third in a time of 17:52. First place went to Kyle Rhodes of East Wilkes in a time of 17:02 and second place was Daniel Alvarez-Orlachia of Surry Central in a time of 17:35.
