WILKESBORO — Triathletes from around North Carolina and neighboring states will make their way to Wilkesboro on Aug. 1 for the Bandit’s Challenge Triathlon.
The race will have 300 registered competitors that will swim 1.5 kilometers, ride a bike for 45 kilometers and run 10 kilometers.
Registration for the race closes on July 29. The cost to register for the triathlon is $80.
Athletes have taken on Bandit’s Challenge each year since 2000 and the race is a USA Triathlon sanctioned event.
Timing chips will be provided and runners will be provided timing splits along the way after the swim, the transition from swim to the start of the bike mileage, after the bike mileage, transition from the end of the bike to the 10K run and finally at the very end after the run is completed.
Race results will be scrolling live on large, flat screen televisions and are hoping to be updated every minute.
Awards will be handed out to the top three finishers in 10 different classes and 16 different age categories.
The triathlon can be completed individually or as part of a relay. Two-person and three-person relay teams can compete in the event. Each relay member has to sign up individually and pick up their packets prior to the race just as if they were planning on racing in all three parts.
