Ashe wraps up indoor track season

WINSTON-SALEM — The indoor track season officially came to an end on Saturday with the NCHSAA 1A/2A State Championship.

Ashe County’s best finish of the event went to Bella Potter who placed ninth in the women’s high jump with a jump that cleared four feet, 10 inches.

Freshman Mahaley Cronk competed in three different events, all in the long distance running category. Cronk took 17th in the 1000-meter run with a time of 3:34. In the 1600-meter run, Cronk finished 11th overall with a finishing time of 5:48. Her final event was the grueling 3200-meter race. Cronk finished 18th overall in 12:53.

For the men, the 4×400 relay team of Jason Durr, Wesley Waddell, Riley Richardson and Josh Hardin took seventh with a time of 3:44, a season-best time. The 4×800 relay team of Terek Ashley, David Roten, Tafton Baker and Riley Richardson finished in 11th in a time of 9:04.

Nick Lanfranchi was 19th in the 55-meter hurdles, finishing in 8.51 seconds.

Ashe’s final competitor was Carter Wilson. He finished 19th in the shot put with a throw that measured in at 37 feet, 4.5 inches.

4×200 relay: JC Smith, Shaquan Graham, Jayhlen Washington, Cameron Barnhill (North Brunswick) – 1:30.

4×400 relay: Robert Brenneman, Joseph Bulfer, Michael Quispe, Tyler Robinson (Croatan) – 3:31.

4×800 relay: Noah Schoenacher, William Coye, Andrew Robinson, Noah Graham (Brevard) – 8:23.

500-meter dash: Michael Quispe (Croatan) – 1:07.

55-meter dash: Cameron Barnhill (North Brunswick) – 6.38 seconds.

55-meter wheelchair dash: Dylan Pinder (North Johnston) – 14.06 seconds.

55-meter hurdles: Jayhlen Washington (North Brunswick) – 7.37 seconds.

High Jump: Dakota Oxendine (St. Pauls) – Six feet, four inches.

Long Jump: Jayhlen Washington (North Brunswick) – 22 feet, 2.25 inches.

Pole Vault: Tyler Fitzgerald (Surry Central) – 14 feet, six inches.

Shot Put: Gabriel King (Mount Airy) – 50 feet, 3.5 inches.

Triple Jump: Jayhlen Washington (North Brunswick) – 46 feet, 2.5 inches.

Wheelchair Shot Put: Dylan Pinder (North Johnston) – 15 feet, two inches.

4×200 relay: Brianna Nachtigal, Trista Taylor, Netanya Linares, Kennedie Gaither (Parkwood) – 1:48.

4×400 relay: Jessica Bevard, Madeline Mayfield, Shalin Revels, Jo Snow (Mount Airy) – 4:12.

4×800 relay: Jill O’Dell, Hailey Schreyer, Nina Perry, Alex Rodman (First Flight) – 10:03.

500-meter dash: Araybian Lilly (West Montgomery) – 1:16.

Pole Vault: Leanna Seagraves (Draughn) – Nine feet, eight inches.

Shot Put: LesLeigh Tabor (Franklin) – 43 feet.

Triple Jump: Peighton Simmons (TW Andrews) – 39 feet, eight inches.
