Starmount sprinted out to a 15-4 lead with four points each from Jacob Riley and Dillon Bray as well as a three-pointer from Fondae McDaniel, a layup from Dillan Dobson and a dunk from Christian Hurt that put the crowd on its feet. Ashe got its points in the quarter with a free throw each from Bryson Payne and Matt Nichols and a jumper by sophomore guard Nehemiah Stafford.
The Huskies would cut into the Starmount lead during the second quarter of play. Ashe opened the quarter outscoring the Rams 8-2 including baskets from Payne and Nichols as well as four points from junior Sam Gammons. McDaniel added another three-ball for the Rams and Dobson chipped in with a layup to push the Ram lead back to eight. Joe Weaver scored his first basket of the game, but Riley was tough inside the paint for the Rams as he would score four more points making the score 24-14. The Huskies then scored six straight points getting a three-point basket from Andrew Lopp, a layup from Chris Hamby and a free throw from Payne. The Rams closed the half out with the only basket of the night from M.J. Bryant to maintain a 26-20 lead at the half.
Both teams came out firing in the second half. Ashe got early buckets from Lopp and Hamby as well as six points from Gammons and the only bucket of the night from Eli Gambill to cut even more into the Ram lead. The Huskies outscored the Rams 13-5 closing out the quarter to trail by just two points going to the fourth quarter at 39-37.
Unfortunately for Ashe, it would be all Rams in the fourth quarter. Gammons tied the game with a basket to open the quarter, but Starmount would outscore Ashe 11-2 going down the stretch to take a 50-41 lead. Jake Barr played good basketball in the final quarter for the Rams. After being held in check for most of the night, Barr scored five points in the quarter to help the Rams seal the victory.
Gammons led all Husky scorers with 14 points, followed by Hamby and Payne with seven each. Lopp added five, Stafford chipped in with four, Nichols scored three points before leaving the game with an injury. Weaver and Gambill finished out the Husky scoring with a basket each.
Riley led all scorers with 19 points for the Rams. Barr added nine, McDaniel scored six and Dobson added five in the victory.
