Jefferson man arrested

A Jefferson man was arrested recently and charged with felony and misdemeanor counts involving separate incidents that took place May 20 and 21 in West Jefferson.

Dennis Lee Lyalls, 27, has been arrested by the West Jefferson Police Department and charged with breaking and entering of a motor vehicle at Biking Buddies on Blevins Express Road, larceny of a motor vehicle from Cardinal Lanes (auto recovered with no damage), stolen part (catalytic converter) from High Country Motors, tampering with a vehicle at Paisley Auto, possession of stolen property (previously taken from Sears), and trespassing at Wal-Mart in violation of a bond order and a ban from the property by the business.

According to West Jefferson Police Chief Brian Grogan, Lyalls is currently incarcerated in Ashe County Jail. The cases are being investigated by Lt. Detective Chris Welch of the West Jefferson Police Department.

In a separate incident, Chief Grogan reports that a house at 206 E. 5th St. in West Jefferson was broken into on June 4. There was a theft of prescription medication and an unknown amount of coins. Lt. Det. Welch is investigating.
