James Lloyd Mitchell, age of 94, of Warrensville, passed away Monday, July 7, 2008, at Margate Health and Rehab Center in Jefferson.
He was born November 11, 1913, in Clifton, NC, and was preceded in death by his parents, Jonah and Emma Mitchell, his loving wife, Arie Eller Mitchell, eight brothers, and three sisters.
He is survived by a stepdaughter, Betty Louise Ashley, and a stepson John “Sommers” Ashley and his wife, Maxine Ashley of Warrensville. Mr. Mitchell is also survived by a granddaughter, Anita, and husband Raymond Hayes of Wilkesboro, and a grandson, Jeffery, and wife Melissa Ashley of Warrensville, and two great-grandchildren, Zeke Hayes and John Mitchell Ashley. Lloyd is survived by a host of nieces and nephews, family members, and friends who loved him and will miss him dearly.
Lloyd was a member of the Sugar Tree Baptist Church in Warrensville. He was also a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and served honorably from 1942-1945 in the South Pacific during World War II. He was an active member of the VFW and the American Legion. Lloyd was a people person who gave back to his community and expected nothing in return.
Funeral services for Mr. Mitchell were held on Saturday, July 12, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel in Jefferson, by the Rev. Tommy Graybeal and Dr. Howard Greer. Burial followed in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with military rites.
