As the top seed of the tournament, Dr Pepper received a first round by in the double-elimination tournament of the Ashe County Parks and Recreation Industrial Softball Tournament. Dr Pepper waited in the second round to face the winner of UPM and Liddle’s Plumbing from the first round, as UPM advanced with a victory last Tuesday evening. UPM proved to be a tough match up for Dr Pepper as the game was decided with a full seven innings, a situation that Dr Pepper has not faced many times this year.

UPM played solid defense in the game and held Dr Pepper scoreless for five innings. However, Dr Pepper was able to score eight runs in the third inning, after scoring one run in the second inning.

The game extended into the seventh inning with UPM trailing Dr Pepper 9-0, as UPM had to keep Dr Pepper scoreless for three innings to avoid the Mercy Rule. UPM made a slight run in the seventh inning scoring two runs, but Dr Pepper ended the game winning 9-2 to advance in the tournament.

UPM dropped to the bottom bracket awaiting the winner of Steve Johnson Auto World/ Miller’s Insurance and Mountain Advantage.

Dr Pepper still remains in the upper bracket and still has an unblemished record of 13-0. Dr Pepper waits to face the winner of the Dirty South Fishing Team and the Diamondbacks. Dr Pepper is the first team of the tournament to reach it to the semi-finals and with a victory in their next game will advance to the championship. For UPM, to reach the finals, they must win three games (without losing any), and then defeat their opponents twice in the championship game.

Action resumes tonight when the Dirty South Fishing Team and the Diamondbacks go into battle for the second spot in the semi-finals and will face Dr Pepper. The loser will drop to the lower bracket to face Liddle’s Plumbing.

In the lower bracket, Steve Johnson Auto World/ Miller’s Insurance faces Mountain Advantage. UPM awaits the winner of that game.
