Senior residents of Ashe participating in the High Country Senior Games this past spring brought home plenty of medals from their competitions. Among the 10 local participants, there were 44 gold medals, 15 silver and two bronze.
Participants were:
Sybil Caudill (women 85-89): gold in discus, shot put, horseshoes, football throw, softball throw, spincasting; silver in bocce; bronze in corn hole.
Roy Elmore (men 75-79): silver in 5k run.
Budd Fowler (men 65-69): silver in doubles bowling, mixed doubles bowling; gold in singles bowling.
Allen Miller (men 60-64): gold in mixed doubles bowling, singles bowling, billiards; silver in golf.
Mary Midge Presnell (women 70-74): gold in bocce singles, mixed doubles bowling, singles bowling, discus, shot put, horseshoes, basketball shooting, football throw, softball throw, swimming events (25 yd. backstroke, 25 yd. breaststroke, 25 yd. freestyle, 50 yd. backstroke, 50 yd. breaststroke, 50 yd. freestyle), table tennis singles, track events (100 M dash, 1500 M run, 200 M dash, 400 M dash, 800 M run); silver in golf, corn hole.
Angie Rudiger (women 75-79): gold in bocce singles; silver in softball throw; bronze in football throw.
Audrey Severt (women 80-84): gold in shot put, Silver Striders Fun Walk, softball throw; silver in bocce singles, horseshoes, football throw, corn hole.
Doris Sullivan (women 90-94): gold in bocce singles, discus, shot put, horseshoes, softball throw, spincasting, corn hole.
Ruby Whitehouse (women 85-89): gold in bocce singles; silver in discus, shot put, softball throw.
Buford Wilson (men 65-69): gold in billiards.
