Ashe golfers take fourth place at Cedar Brook

Cedar Brook Country Club was the home of the Lady Huskies’ most recent golf match, taking place last Wednesday. Elkin came out on top with a team score of 131, followed by Forbush in second with a score of 169, Wilkes Central in third (171), Ashe County fourth (179) and Alleghany in fifth with a score of 184.

Individually, Elkin’s Mary Frances Hall had the best round of anybody with a score of 37. Annika Winebarger of Elkin fired a 44 and Jensen Pendry of Forbush finished up with a score of 44 for the top three scores of the day.

Taylor Price had the best score for Ashe County with a 58, but all five team members were very close with their scores. Katie Girtman shot a 60, Madison Ball a 61, Olivia Barr a 62 and Makensie Shatley rounded out the scores with a 63.

The golf team has three regular season matches remaining. The team will be competing at Silo Run on Wednesday, Oct. 5 before making up a match it misses earlier in the season at High Meadows on Monday, Oct. 10. The final regular season match of the year will be at Oakwoods Country Club on Wednesday, Oct. 12.

This year, the Mountain Valley Conference Tournament will be hosted by Starmount at High Meadows on Oct. 19.
