Jennifer Robinson, principal of Westwood Elementary School, has been named the 2011-2012 Principal of the Year for Ashe County Schools.

This is a high honor of achievement. The selection was made based on the Wells Fargo program sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and Wells Fargo. The criteria includes: respect and admiration of students, teacher, co-workers, and parents; the ability to improve the achievement of students from various backgrounds and with differing capabilities; and the respect of their community where they distinguish themselves as leaders. The principal must have completed at least four years experience as an administrator which includes assistant principal, principal and central office experience.

Mrs. Robinson began her administrative journey in 2006 when she became the assistant principal at Westwood. She later was named principal in 2010. One of Robinson’s leadership goals is to foster a school environment that is safe, nurturing, welcoming, and one where all children can learn and feel successful, which is part of Westwood’s school vision.

She will compete with other local award recipients for regional and state honors as part of the Principal of the Year program sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and the Wells Fargo Company. Regional award recipients will be selected by February 2012 and the 2012 State Wells Fargo Principal of the Year will be announced in spring of 2012 at a state luncheon in Raleigh.

Robinson will be recognized at the November meeting of the Ashe County Board of Education.
